The Gift of Health for Women and Mothers

gift of health

Every second Monday of May we celebrate Mothers’ Day. Should not be surprising to you that this month, I address women’s health and highlight how we can and must improve women’s health. It is safe to say that none of us would be here without our mothers. They conceived us, carried us for nine months, gave birth to us, nursed us and cared for us until we were able to care for ourselves. Many times, they do this at the expense of their own health, neglecting their own wellbeing.

This can show up and manifest years later. Women’s health in the U.S. is not getting better. In fact, more women are living with chronic disease now than any other time in history. Approximately 41% of women are obese, 45% have hypertension, more than 2 out of 3 have an unsafe elevation in blood pressure and 15.5% report fair or poor health even in the absence of diagnosed condition. Women typically live longer than men but data reveal they spend 25% more of their lives in poor health. Heart disease remains the leading cause of death in women even outranking cancers. Especially after menopause, women’s health declines and their risks of death from cardiovascular disease increases. That is because estrogen is needed to optimal nitric oxide production. Without estrogen, nitric oxide production declines rapidly, leading to high blood pressure, insulin resistance, diabetes, obesity and poor energy. Even with estrogen replacement therapy if you do not focus on the restoration of nitric oxide, the estrogen will not provide the cardiovascular benefits. This is where many physicians and patients miss the mark.

What may be even more concerning is the growing rates of infertility in the U.S. and across the globe. The U.S. fertility rate has hit a record low, at 1.62 to 1.63 live births per woman. This is well below the 2.1 replacement level required to maintain a population. This downward trend has persisted for two decades. It is thought to be due to fewer teenage pregnancies, an increase in infertility in adult women and an increase in abortions, either intentional or natural. Natural aborted pregnancies (spontaneous abortions or miscarriages) are becoming more common. This occurs in approximately 10% to 20% of clinically recognized pregnancies. The majority (up to 75%) of these failed pregnancies occur within the first 12 weeks of pregnancy. Intentional abortions appear to be on the rise. In 2022, the CDC reported 613,383 abortions in the U.S. alone or about 51,000 per month. By mid-2025 there were already 98,630 monthly abortions nearly double from 2022 despite the reversal of Roe Vs Wade and increased state restrictions.

All of these statistics are concerning. Women must be healthy in order to get pregnant and to maintain a healthy pregnancy to give birth to a live healthy baby. They should be morally healthy as well and not choose an intentional abortion. With the rise in rates of hypertension, diabetes, obesity, thyroid issues, exposure to endocrine disruptors, more and more women are finding it difficult to conceive and support a growing baby for 9 months. Xenoestrogens are another problem. These are synthetic or natural chemical compounds that mimic estrogen in the body. Chemicals found in plastics such as BPA, phthalates as well as certain pesticides bind to estrogen receptors activating them unnaturally. There are clear health effects which lead to reproductive disorders (infertility, PCOS), early puberty, increased cancer risk (breast, prostate), and metabolic issues. These toxins accumulate in fat tissue making them difficult to excrete.

This is really an existential threat to the human race. We must pay attention to it. We must get back to the basics of human biology. Give the body what it needs in terms of high-quality nutrients and remove from the body any toxins so it can do its job. This is a very simple concept, but it is not easy to achieve or maintain. All of the above conditions lead to a loss of nitric oxide production. Without sufficient nitric oxide, women cannot get pregnant nor maintain pregnancy. If the mother is not eating nutritious meals, then the fetus will not get proper nutrients. If the mother is toxic, those toxins will be delivered to the baby and cause it to become toxic. If there is compromised circulation to the growing fetus, oxygen and nutrients will not be delivered and it cannot grow and prosper.

If you are blessed to still have your mother around, give her the gift of health this year in the form of nitric oxide. Encourage her to focus on her health through proper human diet and exercise. As a scientist for more than 3 decades, I am in awe of the human body and the miracle of conception, pregnancy, delivery of what once was a single cell that becomes a living, breathing little human. Too often we take this life for granted and don’t take care of our health until it is too late.

I am blessed with a loving and caring mother who remains active and healthy. I have made sure she has sufficient nitric oxide for her overall health. She has been a loyal user of my products for more than 15 years. She uses lozenges, the skin care system, toothpaste and is in better health today than 20 years ago. You can and should do the same for your mom. More importantly, start the young women on nitric oxide today to improve their health and fertility. The track we are currently on is not a good one. It is time to make a change. Simply changing to our fluoride free toothpaste to enhance the oral microbiome and the lozenge to enhance nitric oxide production in the cardiovascular system will make sure you are healthy enough to enjoy life and those created around you. Thank you Moms.
